Kaulele Recieved $30,000 from Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority Through the Kūkulu Ola Program, Administered by Kilohana by Hawaiian Council

What can kapa teach us about biology and mathematics? How does mahina guide us to planting, fishing, and ecological timekeeping? What can loko iʻa teach us about engineering and sustainability?

Kaulele invites keiki, kūpuna, ʻohana, residents, and visitors to explore these connections through mobile, hands-on exhibits grounded in Hawaiian knowledge. A $30,000 Kūkulu Ola award from the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority, administered by Kilohana by Hawaiian Council, will help Kaulele continue its journey across Hawaiʻi.

The Kūkulu Ola Program supports projects that nurture the Hawaiian culture through experiences and acitivities that engage both residents and visitors, ensuring they are respectful and accurate.

From July through December 2026, the award will help INPEACE refresh exhibit materials and bilingual signage, coordinate interisland transportation, and host exhibts on O’ahu and on neighbor islands. Through kapa, kaulana mahina, loko iʻa, and lawaiʻa, Kaulele places Hawaiian culture at the heart of scientific discovery.

Mahalo to the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority and Kilohana by Hawaiian Council for helping us bring culture-based STEM learning directly into our communities.
