INPEACE’s Kaulele Program received a generous grant of $50,000 from the Atherton Family Foundation! Kaulele advances indigenous-led design frameworks for traveling STEM exhibits and has demonstrated how culture-based education practices can create hands-on, informal STEM learning opportunities that are relevant to Native Hawaiian youth, families, and communities.
This funding will support Kaulele’s goals to:
· Design and plan a new exhibit, the Hale (traditional Hawaiian house) Exhibit, where children can explore the engineering and ecological knowledge embedded in Hale building.
· The Hale Exhibit will serve as a traveling, pop-up structure, consistent with Kaulele’s model of bringing STEM learning directly to communities.
· The Hale Exhibit will translate architectural knowledge into interactive STEM exploration. It will demonstrate the alignment of cultural practice with modern disciplines such as physics, engineering, and environmental science.
