ʻImi Kaiāulu – PDE3 (Summer 2024)

Calling all K-12 Waiʻanae educators-Our Ka Lama team is excited to provide our newest PDE3 Course: ʻImi Kaiāulu-Finding STEM In Our Community!

Wai’anae educators will earn 3-credits, while learning of the community resources available to them that can be utilized to effectively implement meaningful STEM educational experiences.  Teachers will find new and innovative alternative learning environments in and around their community, to facilitate STEM learning and design community conscious curriculum based in place-based learning.  This 3-credit course is designed to help teachers see that STEM is everywhere and how to align curriculum with culture-based pedagogy.  Teachers will gain confidence in utilizing STEM as a tool to teach all content areas with academic rigor and cultural relevance.

IMPORTANT – Read carefully before submitting payment:

• Please see the attached flyer for course schedule. Participants must commit to attending all instruction days (Zoom), attend all 3 huakaʻi (field trip) days as well as completing a Learning Results Portfolio due on Sept 13 2024
• Registration for this course is only being offered to DOE & PCS educators from the Waiʻanae/Nānākuli complex area.
• Event registration and payment is required in order to be added to the official PDE3 Roster. More details about PDE3 registration will be sent via email upon payment for this event.
• Teacher Reclassification recommends that charter school teachers follow up with their Administrator or PCS Director to ensure that their applications for reclassification will be accepted by the HIDOE before registering for a PDE³ course.
• Deadline to submit payment and to register via PDE3: May 28, 2024
• Participation in this course will also require Ka Lama participant registration to include further support in 1-1 Instructional Coaching and career navigation support. Ka Lama intake paperwork will be emailed prior to course start.
