Ka Lama Education Academy is the longest running program of INPEACE. With a deep commitment to our community in Waiʻanae, we cultivate homegrown educators through our Grow Your Own (GYO) Teacher Education program, embodying the spirit of “ka lama kū i ka noʻeau” – the standing torch of wisdom. The program strives to nurture educators deeply rooted in their cultural heritage and committed to serving their community with excellence in education. We envision educators who are not only knowledgeable but also confident, capable, and connected to their community.
Inspired by the resilience of the kukui tree, our program is structured around three vital components, mirroring the growth and vitality of this revered symbol.
Hua Kaiāulu (College Attainment) represents the seeds of hope scattered across our community, eager to blossom into strong sources of knowledge. We provide support for those pursuing degrees or certificates in teaching, ensuring a robust foundation for their journey.
Kumu Kaiāulu (Educator Development) signifies established educators who have taken root in their profession, becoming pillars of support for the keiki they serve. Through ongoing professional development and mentorship, we empower them to excel in their roles.
Ulu Kaiāulu (Educational Systems) embodies the interconnected network of support and resources that sustain our educational ecosystem. By coordinating pathways and providing navigation for educators, we create an environment where growth and success thrive.
For decades, Ka Lama Education Academy has been dedicated to cultivating high-quality educators from within our community, particularly increasing the presence of Native Hawaiian teachers on the Waiʻanae Coast. As we expand our reach to communities across Hawaiʻi, including Kapolei, Ewa, Molokai, Kauai, and East Hawai’i, our commitment to positively impact the education landscape in Hawaiʻi remains.
